Celebrating Black History Month Celebrating African Writers

In 2019 our chosen novels and writers for Wushwini Pan African Centre are House of Hunger by the late Damburo Machera to celebrate his spirit, it was adapted by Roel Twinstra and Jerry Pooe and only performed once at DUT. The programme will be held at the centre, it will consist of a production, a lecture entitled Remembering and Celebrating of Machera, an African Prolific Writer will be invited to deliver a lecture and the last leg will be a dialogue among invited African Writers discussing with the audience the works of Machera and his contribution to African Literature.

The second novel will be Sleep Walking Land by Mia Coute adapted by Kobus Moolman and was performed once at Grahamstown National Arts Festival, received Standing Ovation Award and raving reviews. The programme will be held at the centre, it will consist of a production, a lecture entitled Celebrating Mia Coute, an African Prolific Writer will be invited to deliver a lecture, Mia Coute will be invited to discuss his work followed by a dialogue among invited African Writers discussing with the audience the works of Coute and his contribution to African Literature.
